Plateau Government Spotlights Infrastructure, Climate Action, and Youth Empowerment in Ministerial Briefing Day 2

The Plateau State Government continued its ongoing ministerial press briefings with Day 2 dedicated to showcasing progress across key sectors under the leadership of Governor Caleb Mutfwang. Held at the J.D. Gomwalk Secretariat in Jos, the session featured detailed reports from the Commissioners of Environment, Works, Youth and Sports, and Housing.

The event underscored the administration’s commitment to transparency, infrastructure renewal, climate resilience, youth empowerment, and inclusive urban development across the state.

Speaking on behalf of the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Mineral Development, Commissioner Hon. Peter Kanang Gwom outlined major strides in environmental protection and climate action. He disclosed that over 2,000 households have benefitted from water harvesting systems as part of ongoing flood mitigation and erosion control efforts, with targeted interventions underway in high-risk areas. The projects, he added, are on track for completion by October.

In partnership with the World Bank-funded ACReSAL initiative and the European International Bank, the ministry is working to enhance Plateau State’s climate resilience. Notably, a 17.1km perimeter fence is being constructed around the Jos Wildlife Park to promote conservation and curb illegal mining activities.

The commissioner also revealed that the ministry’s offices are currently undergoing renovation and digital transformation to improve operational efficiency. He reaffirmed the administration’s dedication to accountability, stating that progress reports and visual documentation are available for public scrutiny.

Also speaking at the briefing, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Ubandoma Joshua Laven, reported that the ministry is actively handling 49 road construction projects inherited from previous administrations. Out of these, 17 have already received approval and are in various stages of execution across communities such as Jengre and Karampana.

The briefing reinforced the Mutfwang-led administration’s mission to drive sustainable development while fostering transparency and public trust in governance.
